The World’s Largest King Tutankhamen Exhibit Is Coming To Australia

Are you into super old dudes wrapped up in cloths and displayed in super fancy golden containers? If you’ve answered yes, you’re in for an absolute treat! The largest ever collection of Tutankhamen relics to ever leave Egypt is set to visit Sydney in 2021.

It’s a huge deal, and comes off the back of the Australian Museum securing an enormous $50 million upgrade.

The exhibit will run for six-month as part of a tour of just 10 cities across the globe, marking the centenary of the discovery of the tomb of the boy King Tutankhamen back in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter.

Now there won’t be any legit mummies on display (we’re a little relieved tbh) but the collection will include more than 150 relics from the tomb itself, and 60 treasures never previously displayed outside of Egypt. The exhibit will also feature around the latest science behind life, health, death and ancestry of King Tutankhamen.

The whole exhibit is set to be pretty huge, extending across 1500 square metres over two floors. It’s super hyped too! The Australian government expects visitors to the collection to bring in more than $100 million to the economy, reports 9News.
