Europe’s Highest Escape Room Is Suspended Almost 3000m Above The Ground

Val Thorens, escape room

If you’re a fan of puzzles, riddles and solving mysteries, chances are you love a good escape room. And a recently opened room at the Val Thorens resort in the French Alps has taken the scare-factor way up – literally.

At the world-famous resort, up to five guests can board its famed gondola and begin the slow climb up into the mountains. At the halfway point, the cable car comes to a sudden halt, where it dangles a crazy 3000m above the earth’s surface. Players are given an hour to solve a series of riddles and puzzles related to the mountain’s history in order to escape.

As scary as it sounds, the views from the gondola are incredible, offering a 360-degree vantage point of the Alps. And, victorious or not, challengers are returned back to the resort safe and sound.

But if chilling in a confined space 3000m above the ground doesn’t fit with your idea of holiday relaxation (Val Thorens is also home to the world’s highest zip-line, FYI), don’t sweat it. The resort offers loads of other activities that take place on the ground, like skiing, fishing, snow yoga, tobogganing, and white-water rafting.

The escape room is free-of-charge, but it’s best to book a time via the closest tourist office to secure your spot.
