Feel The Wind In Your Hair On 3 Of Hong Kong’s Best Hikes

Concrete jungle” is likely the first thing most people would associate with the bustling city of Hong Kong, China, not beautiful hikes. But one of the best things about the city is that both are completely valid.

The famous cityscape is only one piece of the Hong Kong puzzle. Once you escape the skyscrapers, traffic, noise, markets, highways and network of escalators, you’ll find incredible walking trails full of scenic surprises.

#1 Dragon’s Back

Located only 20 minutes from the city, Dragon’s Back is one of the most popular hikes for locals and tourists. The Instagram-worthy views are a huge drawcard, too.

You can get a bus there or get a cab to drop you at the entrance on Shek O Road – just be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the sign.

At the beginning of the track, you’ll walk through a tunnel of lush green plants before reaching the ridge of the mountain. The trail will lead you towards Shek O village, where you’ll be spoilt for choice of ocean views of beach enclaves, islands off the coast and one of the most beautiful golf courses.

The best part about this hike is that it takes you to the cutest village on the Island, Shek O. Pack your swimmers so you can cool off with a swim in the ocean and treat yourself to one of the cheapest beers you can find in Hong Kong at Ben’s Back Beach Bar (or BBB, as the locals like to call it).

#2 The Twins (Wilson Trail)

If you’re looking for a hike to that will see your heart rate soar, the Wilson Trail is Hong Kong’s very own version of a StairMaster, but with much better views. It’s only 4.8kms long, but it will take somewhere between two and three hours, thanks to the hundreds upon hundreds of steps.

The undulating track will take you above the city where you’ll be treated to views over the top of the high-rises and can admire Victoria Harbour from above. Once you’re over the second peak, you’ll totally forget you’re in a city as densely populated as Hong Kong thanks to the lush greenery, meadows of flowers and the sea breeze in your hair.

#3 Sunset Peak

If you enjoyed the challenge of the Twin Peaks and you’re a sucker for a sunset, add the ambitious Sunset Peak trek to your list. It’s located on Hong Kong’s largest Island, Lantau Island.

A day trip to Lantau is a great way to see another side of Hong Kong away from the mainland, and ending the day with a sunset at this peak is unforgettable.

But be warned – this hike is not for the faint of heart. The trail is close to 7kms long, most of which is uphill with a steep descent at the end. But, once you see the sunset over the water and mountains, it’s all worth it.
