Google’s New Street View Lets You See Uluru Up Close

Google’s street view is only getting more and more impressive. They’ve just finished up creating a Storyspheres tour of the sacred Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and it’s seriously amazing.

Google has collaborated with the Anangu traditional owners of Uluru to create a 360-degree immersive tour of Uluru and the surrounds. The experience involves the traditional telling of stories and Tjukurpa (law) as you virtually explore the sacred landmark.

Viewers get to journey to the Talinguru Nyakunytjaku vista, follow the trail of the Kuniya Walk, check out the Kapi Mutitjulu (waterhole) and marvel at the ancient art at Kulpi Mutitjulu (Family Cave). You can even zoom in on certain parts to get a really good sense of the natural formation.

Uluru is contained within the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, the traditional land of the Anangu people who have been living there for 30,000 years. Traditional Indigenous storytelling is oral, so capturing the sacred stories as part of Storyspheres is a really big deal. The project took two years to complete.
