Spend The Night In One Of Canada’s Spherical Treehouses
Treetop accommodation has popped up all over the globe, from China to Hawaii. But Free Spirit Spheres, Canada’s newest treetop stay, has literally re-shaped things, creating totally spherical treehouse cabins.
You’ll find Free Spirit Spheres just a stone’s throw from Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, tucked away in the lush Canadian forest. Each cabin is comprised of a fibreglass sphere set into a wooden frame, with the finished globe measuring around 3m in diameter.
Yellow cedar gives the cabin a shiny exterior, while the interior is finished in rich mahogany or teak. Each of the three cabins available sleeps up to two people, and features a private composting toilet and bathroom suite, which can be found on the ground floor.
“Architecture is a way of shaping and creating habitat to reflect a feeling and to harmonise with the environment,” Free Spirit Spheres architect Tom Chudleigh explains. “The sphere is a form of architecture that reflects that thought of unity and feeling of oneness.”
“Where normal square or rectangular housing separates walls, floor and ceiling with hard lines and often colour and material changes – in a sphere, they all become one.”
