Festival Bucket List: Horizon Festival, Bulgaria
What: The snowy dance festival on the top of a mountain, Horizon Festival will certainly break the mould of sweaty and sticky summer festivals down under.
Where: The crisp mountain resort of Bansko, Bulgaria, the largest ski resort in Europe with over 70 kilometres of slope.
When: Annually in March.
Fun Fact: The extras on offer here are what make this festival: prepare yourself for abandoned hotel raves, food banquets, flash mob ski downs, forest paintball wars and super cool pro-rider sessions.
Why should you go? It’s certainly a niche idea for a festival – ski the slopes throughout the day and kick back all night with over 100 international DJs playing 30 parties held in surprise locations (secret forest stages, medieval banquet halls, and abandoned factories). The two major pulling points here are the music and the skiing, and Horizon certainly delivers on both fronts. Pack your woolies and your dancing shoes, this will be seven incredible days you won’t forget.
