England has some pretty spectacular scenery, and many famous spots along its coastline – think the White Cliffs of Dover, Brighton Pavilion and Land’s End in Cornwall.

Starting from this year, a single coastal walking trail will connect the entire English coastline – yes, the entire coast of the whole country. The trail will be creatively named the England Coast Path.

Due to open this year, improvements to existing trails and connecting paths will mean that the coast will be fringed with 4,500km of trail, from the border with Scotland all the way south past Canterbury and around Cornwall to the coast of Wales near Cardiff.

A separate section of the England Coast Path will run also from the Scottish border near Gretna Green, down to the Welsh border near Chester.

The new walking route is a result of the work by Natural England, as well as local groups, working to improve the infrastructure along the coast, particularly in areas of unsteady terrain or at risk of dangerous tides.

The route is safely connected with paths and signposted where there may be risks. Oh, and it’s all free to access whenever you feel like a stroll, amble, wander or hike.

Speaking of coastal paths, a new route in Sydney opened recently, connecting Bondi to Manly. While this one’s only 80km long, it certainly can compete with the England Coast Path for beauty and wow factor.
