Score Free Tequila And Sombreros At Melbourne’s New Tex-Mex Cantina

Anyone who says they’ve never had a crazy night at El Camino Cantina is either lying or a child, and either way you don’t need that noise in your life. Now the fan favourite Tex-Mex joint is heading to Melbourne, and giving away free tequila and sombreros to celebrate.

Doors are opening to the new Fitzroy location on Brunswick Street on June 14. From 6pm, guests will be given a shot of Jose Cuervo and a limited edition sombrero on arrival. If the normal sombreros at El Camino Cantina are anything to go by, then the limited edition hat will surely be proof that fashion has peaked.

Inside, there’ll be giant margaritas and chalices of beer (not exaggerating) going for $7.50 all weekend during happy hour, as well as cheap house wines and tequilas. El Camino is famous for its signature frozen marg, especially the extra-special and limited edition monthly flavours. On opening night and for the rest of June, the specialty is the Queen of Thrones, a vanilla flavoured frozen margarita topped with sprinkles.

For food, El Camino Melbourne will dish up unashamed Tex-Mex classics like massive burritos, loaded nachos, cheesy quesadillas, chargrilled fajitas and tacos. Most importantly, the guac here is gooood stuff.

And while you stuff your face with frozen margs and corn chips, you’ll be listening to some of the best bangers from the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s, surrounded by neon-lit decorations.

The new El Camino Melbourne Cantina will open on 222 Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. You can book for opening night or the first weekend now. Tables are going to be limited and snapped up quick, so get in ASAP if you want one of the good hats.

It’s not the only new opening in Melbourne, either. The city’s getting a Japanese dessert cafe soon, and the people behind Holey Moley mini-golf and the B. Lucky & Sons arcade bars are opening a ’70s-inspired karaoke bar later this month.
