Australia’s getting some pretty amaze events this year, but not many are as life changing as the Australian Red Cross Blood Service’s first 24-hour donate-a-thon that’s going down this month.
To celebrate World Donor Day on June 14, the Red Cross Blood Service is opening centres in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane CBDs from 7pm on Thursday, June 13 until 7pm on Friday, June 14.
[related_articles]72737,71489,71713[/related_articles]The inaugural 24-hour blood donation marathon, nicknamed Bloody Great Friday, wants to raise awareness about the need for 99,000 new donors in the next twelve months, and to encourage as many people as possible to donate.
Currently, one in three Australians will need a blood donation in their lifetime, but only one in 30 actually donate. Bloody Great Friday hopes to up those numbers, and is enticing new and returning donors in with a stellar lineup of entertainment and pampering.
Donors at Bloody Great Friday events will be treated to live music and entertainment from a magician and caricature artist. Celebrity chefs will whip up bespoke post-donation snacks (heads up Sydney — Nelly Robinson from nel. restaurant will be there to cook for you) and Gelato Messina will be there with a special ABSO-BLOODY-LUTELY flavour (blood orange cheesecake gelato with red velvet cake and raspberry puree).
There’s even a Couples’ Date Night on the Thursday and an extra-special “Donor” kebab being served on both days. We stan this commitment to a theme.
Here’s where Bloody Great Friday is going down:
- Town Hall Donor Centre, 483 George Street, Sydney
- Collins Street Donor Centre, Level 1/367 Collins St, Melbourne
- CBD Donor Centre, 288 Edward St, Brisbane City
You’ll have to register to donate at these centres during the event because, thankfully, they’re expecting a high attendance rate.
