Sydney’s already put on some stellar winter activities, but the city will not go quietly into that warm spring night. In fact, some of the best Sydney winter pop-ups are happening this month.

From the finest food offerings to winter cocktails and even more food, it’s like Sydney is throwing one last hurrah to see the season off. Wherever you go, you can be sure to find blankets, heaters, spiced drinks and plenty of comfort food.

Bars with fairy lights, igloos and more cheese than you can shake a cracker at have all set up shop for August. Together, we can get through winter.

Here are the 5 best winter pop-ups in Sydney this month:

#1 Fried chicken in one hand, a cocktail in the other

The city’s best fried chicken meets Double Bay’s best cocktail bar in this Butter x Mrs Sippy pop-up sent from the heavens. We simply have to stan.

Butter is bringing the ramen, bird and champagne that it does best to the posh digs of the Eastern Suburbs. The signature fried chicken will be rushing out the door in wing, burger and ramen form. Also on the menu are things like haloumi fingers, crispy fried vegetarian options and hot doughnuts, plus a few limited-edition menu items.

And lean a little closer bb, let me whisper the magic words in your ear: bottomless brunches. Sit down to a massive fried chicken feast with a cocktail on arrival and bottomless bubbles (your choice of Chandon sparkling and Veuve).

Mrs Sippy will be slinging a few limited-edition cocktails to mark the occasion, like an Espresso Martini, Ginger Mojito and a Cherry Cola slushie.

#2 Cosy up in an igloo on the Harbour

Sydney Harbour is one of the most picturesque places to enjoy a drink with your friends/co-workers/Tinder date. Especially when the weather is nice. But it’s a shame to ignore the gorgeous spot just because the weather is, how do you say, absolutely freezing.

Thankfully, a whole heap of igloos have popped up along the pier, and they’re the city’s cutest and cosiest chill out zone.

With pitcher cocktails like the Harbour Sunset (Tequila, elderflower liqueur and myrtle syrup) and pages on pages of bubbles, white and red, rosé wine, beer and cider to sip from, these igloos are the perfect spot for a weekend sesh. There’s also comfort food like cheese toasties, pizza, seafood and cheese platters.

You can even get one with a hot tub or stay the night in the Dream Igloo Suite with views of the Harbour and the stars. Bookings for Igloos On The Pier is essential and prices start at $150.

Tbh all most people want to do during winter is stay at home where it’s warm and there are cute fairy lights. Darlinghurst’s East Village has heard your feedback, thought it over, and created a winter wonderland on its rooftop terrace.

The terrace is now decked out with pink flood lights and thousands of glittering fairy lights. Cheese fondue spiked with cherry liqueur is available to order at every table, as is deep fried Camembert and Nutella waffles.

And to drink, there’s mulled wine and cider and a very special Gin Hot Toddy cocktail. There’s also five kinds of warm mead to choose from, including one that tastes like a Jaffa and a spicy little number. It might be cold outside, but it’s warm in this Winter Garden.

Entry is free, but bookings are encouraged.

#4 Bring the heat at Barangaroo

The luxe-as-hell Barangaroo House has transformed each and every one of its three levels into the ultimate winter chalet.

The rooftop House Bar now has igloos and fondue for your wining and dining pleasure. Get a wood-fired dinner at Bea Restaurant and work your way through the winter drinks menu — and don’t skip past the limited-edition Bea-tinis from the bar. Meanwhile, House Bar on the ground floor has ushered in Belvedere Vodka to create some extra special spiced cocktails with a choose-your-own-adventure twist.

Choose the perfect level of spice for your cocktail with the likes of ginger, cinnamon and chilli chocolate. And if you absolutely can’t choose, there’s a house-made hot mulled cider with your name on it.

#5 Gorge yourself on Italian food in the Inner West

The team at Camperdown’s farm-to-table restaurant Acre Eatery 👏 knows 👏 what’s 👏 up. They’ve gone and given the restaurant a full Italian makeover, and they’re serving up the ultimate winter comfort foods.

We’re talking house-made pasta, authentic pizza, all-Italian breakfasts and — are you ready? — an honest-to-god dessert trolley. Stacked with treasures like cannoli (with allll kinds of fillings), hazelnut torte, tiramisu, brioche and glazed fruit tarts, the trolley will be rolling around the dining room serving up sweet treats and sweeter booze (digestifs, if you’re fancy).

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves: the limited-edition menu features wood fired focaccia and sourdough garlic bread, baked cheese, slow cooked lamb ragu, wood fired cauliflower and hand-made gnocchi.
