Kassia is the Editor of AWOL, and a straight-up travel…
Literally every time I go on a trip and start searching through Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration, I vow that THIS will be the trip that I finally splurge on a beautiful hotel. Then I realise I have no savings, so it’s back to the hostel for me.
But what if you can have the picturesque accomodation and stay on budget at the same time? Or if there is no budget, feel like you’ve splurged on accom but still have plenty left over for activities?
I’m sure you’ve realised that I’m about to tell you, you can. Get amongst these actually stunning triumphs of Airbnb rentals around Australia for $100 or less a night.
Queensland: Private Rainforest Cottage
A private cottage in the middle of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland? Yes please. This cutely decorated studio is right in the middle of the rainforest and a short distance from the beach — paradise.
New South Wales: Richmond on Cambridge
Speaking of private cabins, how about this completely off-the-grid and eco-friendly one, over-looking rolling green hills and epic sunsets? Not to mention, your closest neighbour will be a world heritage-listed rainforest.
Victoria: Leafy Retreat
Heading to the Great Ocean Road? Make a stop in this wood and lead light Art Deco/Nouveau-inspired private bungalow. The whole place was hand-made by the hosts, and you can feel the love.
South Australia: Appleton House
Can’t decide between the bush, the city and sea? Have a view of it all with this adorable ivy-strewn stone cottage outside of Adelaide. Oh and there’s a fireplace, what more could you want?
Western Australia: Australian Shed House
Does it get more Aussie than a shed? Probably not, but this is no tin shed rusting in your backyard. It’s a modern, funky little home looking out onto natural bushland and surrounded by kangaroos.
Tasmania: Earth House
Prepare to be obsessed with this snowy getaway — at least, it is between May and September, the rest of the time it’s just a regular cute getaway. It’s nestled away in its own valley, but only a short way from Hobart and MONA.
Northern Territory: Alice Wondervan
Honestly, the name alone is enough to make this place a must-stay. Add to that the fact it’s a well-kitted out, very cute vintage 70s caravan in the heart of Alice Springs and that’s all we need to hear.
