This Has To Be The Most Beautiful Sauna We’ve Ever Seen

Just because you’re far from civilisation, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t treat yo’self. Well, that’s what the people at Bigert & Bergström think anyway. They’ve designed and installed what could possibly be the world’s most beautiful sauna house for Sweden’s northernmost town of Kiruna.
Kiruna is going through a bit of a hard time right now. Located in the less than forgiving climate of the Arctic Circle, the town is built entirely on mining capital. However, due to the impact of mining on the landscape, Kiruna has been left on literally rocky ground and as such, all 18,000 residents have to move three kilometres east.
As you can imagine, it’s a pretty stressful time for a lot of civilians who have to completely uproot their lives. To help out, a company called Riksbyggen enlisted Bigert & Bergström to build a relaxing meeting place for townspeople so they could sweat out their problems.
The result was Solar Egg. The website states: “Solar Egg has been made as a social sculpture where local people and visitors to the town can meet and, for instance, discuss these challenges. In the arctic climate of Lapland the sauna occupies a key position, as a room for warmth and reflection.”
The egg is made of reflective materials on the outside to mirror the stunning Lapland landscape, with pine finishings inside.
Better yet, the Solar Egg is true to it’s name and is completely powered by solar energy. It’s also stunningly beautiful.
Sessions in the sauna are free, but you have to book your spot in advance.
See? Even entire rural towns need to practice self care.
