Bear Grylls Is Getting His Own Theme Park

If you’ve ever scoffed at one of Bear Grylls’ many TV challenges, confident that you could do it without missing a beat, now’s your chance to prove it: The affable survival expert is set to open his own adventure theme park in 2018.

The 8000-square-metre Bear Grylls Adventure park will open in Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC) precinct in 2018, and will feature indoor skydiving, rock climbing and Europe’s highest free-roam high ropes.

Also on site will be a zip-line from a Chinook helicopter (a heavy-lift chopper typically used in Army scenarios), a deep-see diving simulator, and a Basecamp zone, where visitors can learn adventure skills through physical and mental challenges inspired by Grylls’ adventures across mountains, deserts and jungles around the world.

“I have been so lucky to experience some of the toughest environments and challenges the world has to offer,” Grylls said at a press conference in Wales’ Snowdonia region (which he arrived at by helicopter, if ).

“When your greatest fears are laid bare, you have to dig deep. That ‘never give up spirit’ is what I hope to inspire in as many people as possible through this huge endeavour.”

The park is a collaboration between Grylls and Merlin Entertainments, the company responsible for Legoland, Madame Tussauds and Sea Life Aquariums. Attraction prices will vary, with Basecamp entry tickets starting at  around $40 (£25).
