Winter has landed. For many of us, this shivery season of short days and hibernation simply won’t do. It’s no surprise that each year a convoy of Aussies chase a vitamin D fix across the globe in the bid for an all-year-long summer.

Thinking of joining the mass exodus to Europe this winter? Make sure London is top of your list. Make the most of England’s colourful capital and take in that unmistakable cityscape from every angle. Try a mix of these established and seasonal cosmopolitan hotspots for a taste of the eclectic culture at the rooftop bars in London:

#1 East

Hipster’s Paradise

East London is the undisputed coolest hangout in town, with some of the best rooftop bars in London. Head up to Netil 360, the generous open air rooftop space above Hackney’s Netil House. The building itself is multifunctional, offering up a co-working space, cafes and even yoga classes. Kick back with pals on the sun-soaked astroturf and enjoy the relaxed vibe. The dress code is as cool and casual as the atmosphere.

Netil360 is open from 12pm, Wednesday to Sunday. Last orders are called at 10.30pm Thursday to Saturday and 9.30pm Wednesday and Sunday.

A Slice Of Sin City

The Queen of Hoxton’s summer pop-up puts a futuristic spin on the hedonist’s respite. Lost Vegas Rooftop reimagines Sin City in 2030 when the neon metropolis has been overrun by eco-warriors and overgrown with nature. Complete with a Little Vegas Wedding Chapel and derelict yellow school bus, expect to be transported stateside to a strange yet familiar world.

The Queen of Hoxton’s Rooftop Film Club also hosts a series of late night screenings throughout summer for  a dose of after dark entertainment.

Lost Vegas is open between June 24 and October 1, 2018. The Queen of Hoxton rooftop is open from 4pm until 10pm Monday to Thursday and 12pm to 10pm Friday to Sunday.

#2 Southwest

If you’ve somehow resisted the urge to blow all your savings on Oxford Street whilst visiting London… kudos! For those of us with a little less willpower, it’s a comfort to know that after a hard day’s shopping, there’s a well-deserved refreshment within grabbing distance.

John Lewis’ Gardening Society Rooftop is the perfect spot to sit back and wonder how on earth you’ll be affording the rest of your trip post-spree. And what better way to lament over your bank balance than whilst enjoying a view and some ambient sound? Eat and drink ‘til your heart’s content from within the comfort of state of the art immersive sound studios as part of the venue’s summer spectacular, The Summer of Sound. Head on down (or technically, up) for an all-round sensory treat.

Summer of Sound on the roof runs Sunday to Wednesday 12pm to 9pm, and Thursday to Saturday 12pm to 11pm with live music on weekends.

Summer Oasis

Now to head West to the alfresco delights of Pergola On The Roof. Much to the delight of locals, the seasonal favourite returns to the limelight for another summer. Pergola is a welcome breath of fresh air from the busy streets of Paddington’s business district and a great place to feel part of the action at one of the venue’s long canteen-style table and benches.

Don’t be disheartened if the notorious British summertime throws some questionable weather during your visit – there’s a spacious lower floor where you can enjoy your mojito rain or shine. Book a table or daybed for parties of fifteen well in advance to avoid missing out on this enchanting rooftop.

Pergola Paddington is open for lunch and dinner sittings Wednesday to Sunday.
