Neil Perry’s Sydney restaurant Rockpool has been named Australia’s Restaurant of the Year at last night’s Gourmet Traveller Australian Restaurant Guide launch. The magazine’s editors noted the restaurant really is the whole package with delicious and inventive food created by Neil Perry and Phil Wood, great talent on the floor and in the kitchen, an amazing cellar with expert sommeliers, and a super classy room.
Other awards of the night went to sustainability activist Joost Bakker, for his Outstanding Contribution to Hospitality, Three Blue Ducks in Byron Bay for Regional Restaurant of the Year and Dan Hunter from Brae for Chef of the Year.
Gourmet Traveller‘s chief restaurant critic Pat Nourse says of the awards, “It just goes to show that Australia is truly a great destination for people who love to eat, drink and have fun.”
