London’s Iconic Admiralty Arch Is Being Transformed Into A Luxury Hotel
A mainstay on London‘s walking tour scene, the expansive Admiralty Arch is set to be transformed into a luxury hotel in the heart of the city.
Situated adjacent to Trafalgar Square, the Admiralty Arch was commissioned by King Edward VII in 1912 to commemorate his mother, Queen Victoria. It’s served several purposes since, including as the First Sea Lord’s residence and the UK government’s Cabinet Office.
[related_articles]50196[/related_articles]The building has Grade I landmark status and will be refurbished by Prime Investors Capital, which paid just over $100 million (£60 million) for a 250-year lease on the building in 2015. When it opens, the hotel will be managed by luxury hoteliers Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts.
Prime Investors Capital has promised the Admiralty Arch’s unique architectural features will be preserved in the renovation, which will see 96 rooms and suites, three restaurants, a rooftop bar and a spa installed.
“This agreement marries the timeless elegance of Waldorf Astoria with the historic grandeur of one of London’s great monuments,” Christopher J Nassetta, president of CEO of Hilton (which owns Waldorf Astoria), said in a media release.
“Projects of this calibre are rare, and the Admiralty Arch Waldorf Astoria will provide a truly unforgettable hospitality experience when it opens to guests.”
The hotel is expected to open to guests in 2022.
