Wish You Were Here: Hotel Del Coronado, San Diego

Lovingly referred to as the home of Comicon, Legoland and Anchorman, San Diego has seen a huge boom over the last decade and it’s slowly becoming one of the coolest cultural epicentres on the West Coast. You can probably blame Ron Burgundy for that.

If you’re keen on visiting this city of beer, beaches and a whole lot of culture, your only logical choice would be to dive head first into the classy Hotel del Coronado on Orange Avenue. This place is luxe with a capital ‘L’.

Hotel del Coronado is perfectly suited to its Southern Californian location – right off the main strip and inches away from the beach, Coronado has 125 years worth of San Diego history all wrapped up in a sprawling 28-acre resort. The historic Victorian building lays claim to seven different dining options, an in-house spa and salon, as well as a fitness centre and outdoor pool.

The hotel also hosts a weekly Beach Spin Class on the resort’s lawn overlooking the ocean. If you thought Soul Cycle was cool, this might just take the cake – you’ll be lead by some of San Diego’s best cycle instructors through your very own set of Beats by Dre headphones. This is so quintessentially “California” that it’s almost too much.

There’s also the greatest looking Sunday morning buffet spread we’ve ever laid eyes on. Seriously, that’s so much food – and what a room! Okay, booking plane tickets now.
