This Has To Be The Best Viewpoint In Rio De Janeiro

There’s no doubting that Rio de Janeiro is a beautiful city, but this might just be the prettiest viewpoint in all of Rio.
Parque Lage is located in the Jardim Botânico neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The expansive area was once the residence of industrialist Enrique Lage and his wife, singer Gabriella Besanzoni. During the 1920s, the mansion was remodelled by Italian architect Mario Vodrel, but it was decades later, in the 1960s, when this stunning private space was converted into a public park.
The mansion itself now houses an art school – the Escola de Artes Visuals do Parque Lage. The park is also home to a number of walking trails that lead towards the subtropical forests of Tijuca National Park, which surrounds the mansion. Wandering the gardens, you’ll often find monkeys feasting the trees high above the trails.
But, by and large, the biggest drawcard is the view over the mansion’s pool towards the imposing mountains behind.
Right there, at the top of those mountains, is Rio’s famous Christ the Redeemer statue. If you’re up for a challenge, use the hiking trail that begins behind the mansion and traipse up to the statue (don’t worry, there’s a bus to get up there, too.)
The space might look vaguely familiar if you spent a big chunk of 2003 watching Video Hits, as the video for Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams’ ‘Beautiful’ was shot right here at Parque Lage.
