The Definitive Guide To All The Things You Can Do This Long Weekend

Long weekends sneak up on us every darn time. How many times have you heard, “Wait, it’s a long weekend this weekend?” My guess is lots of times.

Because we don’t realise when the long weekends are coming, we always fail to plan them properly. Thus, we’re left with half-baked plans and end up just relaxing in front of the TV. But we’ve already told you that if you want to make the weekend last longer, you have to do new and exciting stuff!

While you may not have planned a big weekend away in advance, there’s still lots of day adventures and activities to be had over the three-day break. Here are our picks:

Sydney

Sydney Film Festival

You can always stay in the city and watch your way through some of the world’s best films at the Sydney Film Festival. The festival really kicks into gear this weekend with showings in the all over the city, including Newtown, Circular Quay, Cremorne and Casula.

Ramadan Night Markets

Every year at Ramadan, Lakemba hosts one of the best night markets in the city. There’s even a tour you can do to make sure you hit the best spots. We suspect a food coma on the horizon.

Silent Disco Skating

Back again this year for VIVID, Silent Disco skating is the most fun you can have on ice. Also, it’s free! Remember to check out the city come alive with light installations, too.

Port Fairy Dachshund Dash

Important!! There will be a whole bunch of tiny-legged sausage dogs racing for glory at the Port Fairy village green. If you wanted to enter your doggo, it’s not too late. Head here.

Queen’s Birthday Street Festival

Say ‘appy birthday to her majesty with St Kilda’s funnest annual street festival. Food stalls, live music, drinks and even fire twirlers. There’ll also be a Queen impersonator because, why wouldn’t there be?

Brisbane

Like a real safari, but instead of spotting cheetahs, it’s avocado and dukkah. The West End Brunch Safari is $65AUD and you get a bunch of food, coffee and distinct local knowledge with it.

Brisbane’s Vegan Markets

Vegans, Vegetarians and omnivores all round are guaranteed to find something delicious at Brisbane’s newest animal-friendly markets. Think cruelty free food (doughnuts! burgers!), clothes and cosmetics.

Young Henrys Social Pins Competition

If your love of pinball has laid dormant for a while, head down to Saccharomyces Beer Cafe for a verified pinballin’ comp. The $15AUD entry fee gets you a spot in the competition, unlimited pinball and a scooner of Young Henrys. Sunday, sorted.
