The 10 Happiest Countries In The World Have Been Named

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – Scandinavia is pretty darn great. With all those tall beautiful people, the stunning scenery and that general sense of calm that comes with living in a place with free education, free childcare, free healthcare and free aged care for all citizens – Nordic countries sure do know how to treat their citizens right. On top of that, a bunch of northern European countries were just crowned some of the happiest in the world. That’s almost reason enough to pack up your bags and head over.

Yep, the annual World Happiness Index has been announced with Denmark leading the pack (again) for 2016. Praised for its commitment to renewable energy practices, Denmark also scored highly on all aspects of the index’s scale, which includes life expectancy, income and education. Denmark was joined by its Scandinavian brothers Norway (4th) and Sweden (10th) as well as their Nordic cousins Iceland (3rd) and Finland (5th), a remarkable effort for a collection of countries that spend the majority of their winter in complete darkness ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

But let’s not completely disregard Australia just yet. Australia ranked an impressive 9th overall, trailing just behind New Zealand who came in 8th. As well as our ace attitude (‘no worries’ is somewhat of an Aussie mantra), we’re also in possession of one of the highest life expectancies in the world (82.4 years) and the world’s highest expected years of schooling (20.2 years). It’s no wonder we were crowned the second best country in the world recently.
