Here’s Where Everyone Is Planning To Go When That New Zealand Bubble Opens

For those of us devastated by the (admittedly expected) news that international travel likely won’t be back on the cards until 2022, there is still one semblance of hope to cling to — the Australia/ New Zealand travel bubble.

The even better news about NZ being our one hope for overseas travel before 2022, is that it’s exactly where the rest of the world wants to be anyway — according to TripAdvisor’s ‘Travellers’ Choice 2021 Awards’.

In the ‘Trending Destinations‘ category — which included places around the world with the biggest increase in positive ratings and reviews over the last year — Queenstown came in at number six.

It’s not hard to see why either. Yes, this is the place of the Hobbits, but also of adrenaline sports, water sports, incredible natural scenery, and 75 delicious wineries. So basically, it has it all.

Dunedin made the top 25 for the ‘Emerging Destinations‘ category — which included places with the largest increase of people ‘saving’ it — for it’s rare yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals and the only mainland albatross colony in the world. There’s also plenty of historic gold-rush era architecture and a scenic railway, if that’s your jam. Also the world’s steepest street lives here, and it’s honestly wild.

It’s no surprise that NZ also made the list of the best national parks worldwide — it’s a ridiculously stunning country. Fiordland National Park came in 10th place, although it’s been loved since Rudyard Kipling apparently called it “the eighth wonder of the world”. The particularly popular spot in this glacier national park is the Milford Sound for its emerald green colouring and numerous waterfalls. It’s truly idyllic here.

Further down the list is Westland Tai Poutini National Park, another glacier-rich area. According to TripAdvisor, The Speedy Fox and Franz Josef glaciers are particularly popular sights.

I don’t know about you, but I just added several destinations to my bucket list.
