7 Amazing Experiences To Share With Your Mum This Mother’s Day

They give us life, they raise us, and they always text back. As a category of people, mums really can’t be beat.

That’s why Mother’s Day is a pretty great opportunity to thank your mum for all that she does. And to really show you mean it, we’d advise trying a little bit harder than just wrapping up a bar of lavender-scented soap.

So why not go the extra mile and treat her to an experience the two of you can share? That way, you’re not just giving a great pressie but also the promise of some Quality Time with you, her favourite child.

RedBalloon has handpicked some of the best Mother’s Day experiences to get you started and we’ve picked out seven you can’t go wrong with. All you have to do is find the one that’s perfect for your special lady before May 9 rolls around.

The bigger the better, though – because you probably have some terrible teenage years to atone for.

#1 A Hot Air Balloon Ride Over The Hunter Valley

You know what mums love? Views. Being awed by the spectacular beauty of nature is one hundred percent their shit.

To treat your mum to some truly breathtaking sights, get up early and embark on a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Hunter Valley. After a one-hour flight across the vineyards, the two of you will get to sit down for a champagne breakfast at a local winery. She’ll have a ball.

#2 An Eleven-Course Japanese Degustation

For at least 18 years, your mum fed you three meals a day. So why not return the favour with one extremely large degustation dinner?

Over eleven (!) courses, your mum will be entertained by the theatrics of Teppanyaki cooking – where the food is sizzled in front of you – and treated to delights like scallops, salmon, and an entire South Australian rock lobster. Arrive hungry.

#3 A Boozy Cheese Making Class

Sure, your mum can cook. But does she know how to make her own burrata?

To help her break new culinary frontiers, head out for an evening cheese making class guided by an expert chef. So that she can live her best Wine Mum life, every class comes with complimentary bottomless bubbles.

You’ll also walk away with a kilo of burrata and bocconcini to take home, which truly should be all the incentive you need to sign up.

#4 A Very Fancy Sparkling High Tea

Handmade cakes, finger sandwiches, fluffy scones, freshly-brewed Earl Grey and sparkling wine: high tea just feels posh.

So to treat your ma like the royalty she is, head out for an afternoon of clinking your teacups together at the National Gallery of Victoria. Seatings run for 90 minutes, so there’ll be plenty of time for you to gossip about your cousins and for her to ask you why you’re not married yet – lovingly, of course.

#5 A Beautiful Wilderness Cruise

For an experience she’ll never forget, take your mum on a cruise around one of Australia’s most jaw-dropping natural locations: Wilsons Promontory National Park.

Over 2.5 hours you’ll get to see Skull Rock and the southernmost tip of mainland Australia, keeping an eye out for seals, dolphins, and sea birds as you go. Depending on the time of year, you might even get a glimpse of migrating whales.

Plenty of opportunities for a cute mother-child photo op, too.

#6 A Mineral Springs Spa and Massage

If your mum has earned a little R&R, take her out to Daylesford to day spa in style.

At a beautiful Hepburn Springs bathhouse, the two of you can unwind together in the mineral springs said to have healing properties. From there, you’ll don a fluffy robe and head off for a rejuvenating massage. It will almost make up for the whole giving-birth-to-you thing.

#7 A Private Winery Tour

Does your ma fancy herself as a bit of an oenophile? Let her get her grape on with a private winery tour of the South Coast.

Escorted by your own private driver, the two of you will get to sample award-winning wines, cheeses, and local produce plates as you hop between three different wineries. She’ll feel a) tipsy and b) like the VIP she is.
