Gelato Messina are royalty in the Australian ice cream kingdom. I mean, this is the place where ice cream meets breakfast cereals, apple pie and poached figs in marsala. And now, Melburnites will be able to enjoy seven whole courses of the stuff, in the name of art.
The Gelato Messina Creative Department will be hitting Gelato Messina’s Windsor store next month, promising a evening of – to borrow from Masterchef – extreme “yumminess” to a lucky few people.
A staple at Sydney’s Darlinghurst store since April, the Messina Creative Department is a seven course degustation that comes with accompanying “liquid concoctions”. The menu is ever-changing, with Messina’s chefs regularly refining and experimenting with new flavours. But be warned: not all courses will be as sweet as Messina’s regular fare. Past degustations have seen the likes of garlic and vanilla gelato served with tomato confit and a bergamot gel, as well as olive oil sorbet with black truffle sauce. Oh my.
And Melbourne’s sweet elite will get a chance to sample the goods – but for one week only. From August 23 to 27, the secret room behind Messina’s Windsor store will seat eight people at a time and serve up unusual flavours to the lucky few for $130 a head.
Bookings for this event have just sold out, but you can join the waiting list here. The Gelato Messina team have promised they will be back in October, so keep an eye out on their Facebook page for more details.
