It’s So Cold That New York Thinks You Should Go To Florida Instead
As the icy-grip on the USA’s north-east strengthens, a New York tourism office has received record traffic on their website after suggesting that anyone interested in visiting the area should go to the much warmer Florida Keys instead.
The Ithaca-Tompkins County Convention and Visitors Bureau posted sunny beach images of Key West with links to the Florida region’s tourism websites with the text “We surrender” and “Winter, you win”. While the north-east’s record breaking icy weather is cold enough to freeze Niagra Falls, Key West is experiencing pleasant weather in the mid-20°C range.
The link was removed soon after as 150,000 people visited the site, crashing the server. Funnily enough, the urging of people away from New York has has instead resulted in increased tourism inquiries for the region. I guess a sense of humour really is attractive.
