Instagram Has Revealed The Aussie Locations We Loved Most This Year
Who hasn’t added a destination to their travel bucket list because they saw it on Instagram, it looked beautiful, and they were inspired? The social media platform is perfect for discovering new places you may not otherwise have ever stumbled across. Even more useful is the “search by geotag” feature, allowing you to find some of the most-loved spots by locals that may not be listed in any of the guidebooks. It seems Instagram has noticed our love of the geotag, as they’ve released a Year In Review report of the most-tagged locations in every Australian state.

Meanwhile, our southern states were all about the culture fix, with National Gallery of Victoria in the top spot for that state, MONA (of course) for Tasmania and the National Gallery of Australia in the ACT.

In Queensland, the inner-city hub of Southbank was the most tagged location. Western Australia and the Northern Territory were unsurprisingly all about the natural wonders, with Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park and Rottnest Island taking the top spots respectively.
On a global scale, the most geo-tagged place in the world was Disneyland Tokyo — the happiest (and, apparently, busiest) place on earth. The Year In Review also rounded up Australia’s five most geotagged Australian landmarks and beaches. You can check out the lists below.
