Italy Are Your New Hide-And-Seek World Champs

For most of us, days of playing hide-and-seek are far behind us. But some are willing to travel across the globe for the chance to battle it out for the title of world champion.

Yep, over the weekend, over 400 competitors gathered in the tiny ancient village of Consonno, Italy, to compete in the Nascondino Hide-And-Seek World Championship.

Each year 80 international teams enter into the running, but only one can emerge with the title of best hide-and-seekers, taking home the prized Golden Fig Leaf trophy. Teams are made up of five players, and the game is divided into four rounds. Players are given 60 seconds to find a hiding place, then must reach home base (a round foam mattress) before the seeker, within the given time limit.

The game works off a points system – the faster you get to home base, the more points you will receive. This year, the gold was taken home by Italian team Mucche Arrosto (The Roasted Cows).

After long days of hiding (and seeking), teams are treated to a bunch of different activities, including rock and electro music concerts and delicious eats and craft beer dished up by street-food vendors.

If you think you’re and your mates are a shoe-in for next year’s championship, registration is $185 (€125) per team and includes an official uniform for each player, camping for two nights and passes to all of the after-hours festivities.
