We wouldn’t blame you if you hadn’t heard of Pender Island. It’s absolutely tiny, located in the Gulf of Georgia, in British Columbia, Canada; right beside the US and Canadian border near Vancouver and Seattle. To the north, you’ll find a fancy little campground called WOODS on Pender, which bills itself as a means to “reconnect people to the simple pleasures of nature in a modern camp aesthetic”. Nice.
On the island you’ll find open farmland, rolling forested hills, lakes, cover and an abundance of beaches – it also boasts a sub-Mediterranean climate year round, so it makes sense that it’s a popular holiday spot for Canadians and Americans alike.
WOODS on Pender offers a collection of glamping options set right in the heart of billowing green woods on a 7.3 acre property just adjacent to the Prior Centennial National Park.
Guests have access to a number of airstream caravans, rustic cabins, a sleeping pod and even a shasta airflyte trailer. Each of these cosy nooks are equipped with queen beds, modern furnishings, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and, of course, access to the plethora of hammocks on the property. What a dream.
While peeling yourself off that hammock might seem like the last thing you’d want to do, there’s also a number of indoor and outdoor activities you can take part in on the island that’ll surely get your heart racing. These include kayaking, whale watching, golfing, hiking, biking or heading off to a local farmers market or thrift store.

Getting there is simple. If, like many of us, you don’t own a boat, you can hop on a ferry, a float plane or a helicopter towards the remote island from both the neighbouring Vancouver Island or on the US side near Seattle. The lovely people from WOODS on Pender will then pick you up in their passenger shuttle and take you to the reserve. Easy peasy.
Prices for accommodation at WOODS on Pender start at around $100AUD a night, but vary depending on season.
