Uluru’s Spectacular ‘Field Of Light’ Has Been Extended Yet Again

By now, you’ve no doubt seen Uluru’s spectacular Field of Light all over Instagram – it’s a large-scale light installation comprised of 50,000 multi-coloured LED lights connected by a network of spaghetti-like cables.

Created by British artist Bruce Munro, the award-winning project has proved wildly popular since it was first installed in 2016 – so much so that it was extended for a second season.

Now, though it was due to wrap up in February, Field of Light has been extended yet again, this time running until New Year’s Eve in 2020.

“The extension offers guests the opportunity to enjoy not only the spiritual nature of the destination, but experience it in a unique and mesmerising way,” Voyages Executive General Manager Sales, Marketing and Distribution, Ray Stone, said in a media release.

More than 200,000 travellers and locals have visited the ethereal display since it opened.

“I wanted to create an illuminated field of stems that, like the dormant seed in a dry desert, would burst into bloom at dusk with gentle rhythms of light under a blazing blanket of starts,” Munro says of his inspiration for the project. It’s his largest-ever work.

You can find out more about Field of Light accommodation packages on the Ayers Rock Resort website. Passes start at $39 per person.
