Ever Wanted To Own Your Own Hobbit Home? Now’s Your Chance
There’s fandom, and then there’s fandom. For some diehard J.R.R Tolkien fans, their dream has now become a reality, with a real life ‘Hobbit House’ up for sale.
Fine, so it’s a little far from Middle Earth – well, New Zealand anyway. Known as The Hobbit House, it was built among the idyllic countryside of Montana in the US.
Also known as The Shire of Montana, it was modelled entirely after Tolkien’s descriptions in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Almost entirely underground, the property stretches across 1000 feet, with two bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room and outdoor verandah.
The magical details are what makes it so special; there’s intricately crafted woodwork, handmade juniper furniture, granite countertops and a full bath.
Around the entire property you’ll find handmade Gandalf lamps, 300 solar-powered dragonflies that light up and change colour, illuminated mushrooms, the famous golden rings from Tolkien lore, and hundreds of tiny fairy houses decorating the trees around the property, complete with little ladders, brooms and furniture.
There’s even a troll house inside a 700-year-old redwood tree, a wishing well, neighbouring Hobbit ‘homes’ and more.
For the last few years the property has operated as a guest house for Hobbit and Lord of the Rings-loving holidaymakers, but its owner has now listed it for sale, priced at $595,000US.
