The Most Epic Music Festivals In Europe You Have To Get To

Kallida music festivals in Europe

While us Southern Hemisphere-dwellers shiver in the cold, our cousins on the other side are making the most of the epic summer music festivals in Europe. It’s a whole season over there.

Picture dancing on a mountain-top dusted with a silvery mist, or whiling summer days away on a Mediterranean boat cruise. Or perhaps boogying down in a castle, on a beach, or even in an ancient Roman amphitheatre because, well, why not?

These are just some of the amazing music festivals in Europe right now. Here’s our pick of of the events that have it all. Amazing vibe, killer lineup, activities galore and, most importantly, a blow-your-socks-off location.

Dimensions festival, Croatia

Every year, the coastal town of Pula in Croatia hosts Dimensions Festival. Pula itself is cute seaside spot steeped in centuries of history. Approximately 8,000 years of it to be precise. And then the Romans arrived and built the epic amphitheatre slap-bang in the city centre some time between 27BCE and 68CE.

The amphitheatre is still standing, for the most part, and guess what? You can party in it for Dimensions Festival, which hosts its opening concert in the amphitheatre. This year will see Kraftwerk, 3-DNils, Frahm, Moodymann, Nubya Garcia, Josey Rebelle and Debora Ipekel take the stage. Main festival acts include heavyweights like Bonobo, Marcellus Pittman, Ben UFO, Alex Perez and Fatima.

Oh, and did we mention the boat parties? Three-hour long cruises through the Adriatic Sea to the sweet, sweet sounds of some of your favourite DJs.

Kallida festival, Wales

The boutique three-day Kallida festival  – a visual arts and music event – is held in a 19th-Century country house in Wales. A huge old mansion and 130 acres of lush Welsh countryside set the scene for festival-goers. Party in the mansion, sleep in the mansion. Yep, that’s right, you can book a room in the manor, complete with four-poster bed and even a hot tub.

This year the festival hosted an eclectic lineup with everything from drum ‘n’ bass to dancehall to deep house, with the likes of Daniel Avery, Afriquoi and Rockwell taking to the decks. It’s among our absolute favourite music festivals in Europe.

Details: 2018’s festival took place in June, with 2019 dates to be confirmed. First release tickets were £65 (AU$116).

Electric Castle, Romania

Party like royalty at Electric Castle Festival. Bánffy Castle in Transylvania was likely built in 15th or 16th century as a small country manor, probably for a bunch of vampires. But when Dénes Bánffy inherited it, he fortified it and turned it into the castle you see today. It’s eclectic and it’s crazy, and you need to go to see why it’s among the hottest music festivals in Europe.

Electric Castle is a music and arts festival with headliners such as Damian Marley, Jessie J, London Grammar and Mura Masa taking the stage for 2018.

Details: July dates TBC. In 2018, single-day tickets started at 149 Romanian lei (AU$50), with general access passes costing 549 lei (AU$185).

Every morning, the mountains are dusted with a silvery mist that slithers through the mountains creating a spectacular visual spectacle. This is a very eco-conscious festival with goers being avid nature-lovers, so expect peak bush doof.
