Disneyland Has Revealed The Food At Its New Avengers Campus, And We Have Questions

Like pretty much every large gathering place in the US, Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California is temporarily closed. (You know the reason.)

Despite the spate of closures and cancellations, Marvel’s parent company Disney used this week to tease details of its upcoming Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park. The new Marvel Comics-inspired expansion is set to open on July 18, 2020 – COVID-19 willing.

Avengers Campus’ main attraction is a no-expense-spared Spider-Man simulator called Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure. Guests will wear 3D glasses and use the ride’s interactive technology to sling webs like Peter Parker.

There’s also an Avengers Headquarters to explore and a Guardians of the Galaxy thrill ride.

But we’re really here to talk about the food. The Pym Test Kitchen is the main dining hub in Avengers Campus. The name is a play on the size-altering Pym Particles seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp. So far, so cute.

The Pym Test Kitchen therefore features “food at unusual scales”. The gimmick is that the menu items have been manipulated by shrink-and-grow technology.

The Not So Little Sandwich features a giant breaded chicken breast on a tiny roll. The Impossible Spoonful features a large and small meatball (made with Impossible meat) on top of regular-sized and tiny pasta.

The PB³ Superb Sandwich is a riff on America’s classic snack, the PB&J. The Pym’s version is made with peanut butter, banana, smoked bacon and strawberry jelly. It’s served with a shot of banana smoothie and tater tots. And why the blue streaks? Those are from the Pym Particles, duh.

The menu items also include a Caesar salad with a giant crouton, an oversized Quantum Pretzel and a huge caramel-filled candy bar called Experiment No. SC1.

Right now you’re either recoiling in horror or dreaming of the Insta opportunities.

But wait, there’s more. The Campus features the Shawarma Palace, a nod to the restaurant that brings the gang together in The Avengers movie. The food there is unlikely to get too crazy, if you’re steering clear of blue-tinged bread.

Adults can also take shelter with a boozy concoction in the Pym Tasting Lab. The bar features a reverse draft system, which pours beer into a glass from the bottom up. (That’s a nod to Doctor Strange’s gift to Thor.)

Last but not least, the Terran Treats food cart will sling sweets that play on Guardians of the Galaxy. We won’t knock this brightly-coloured, Infinity Stone-inspired cream puff until we try it.
