There’s been a gaping Toy Story-shaped hole in Disney’s mostly excellent parks for a long while now, but the company has confirmed the film’s first dedicated land is opening sooner than expected.
Disney staff revealed in a blog post on Friday that the new land would open at Florida’s Walt Disney World resort on June 30, 2018. It’ll form part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and will see visitors “shrunk” to the size of a toy for their visit to Andy’s backyard (read: all your favourite characters, like Buzz, Woody, Jessie and Rex, are gonna be really, really big).[media_embed]https://youtu.be/h-nmLbZorLE[/media_embed]
Rides include the Slinky Dog Dash, a roller coaster constructed by Andy using his Mega Coaster Play Kit, and Alien Swirling Saucers, a play set won by Andy at Pizza Planet. Toy Story Mania!, an interactive 3-D ride stationed at three Disney parks since 2008, has been expanded ahead of the new land’s opening, too.
Toy Story Land will be the biggest expansion in Walt Disney World’s history, eventually sprawling over 11 acres. It’s just one of a slew of updates and new openings coming to Disney parks in 2018 and beyond.
