A Cruise Through Alaska, Canada, & Greenland Is Coming In 2023, And It’s The Adventure We Crave

There are ‘cruises’, that conjure up images of over 50’s swing dancing, too many cocktails and spending as little time as possible onshore. Then, there are ‘cruises‘ that only the most adventurous need apply to. The latter is coming in 2023.

Hurtigruten — known for their sustainable expedition cruises — has revealed a new flagship voyage following the path of famous Norwegian explorer, Roald Amundsen, along the Northwest Passage.

Iceburgs in Greenland.

What is the Northwest Passage, you ask?

It’s a route between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans that goes through the Arctic Ocean and along the northern coast of North America — passing Greenland, the top of Canada and over to Alaska.

This is no standard cruise, as it’s known to be one of the most challenging stretches of water to navigate — needing to make your way around ice floes and a lot of smaller islands. So you’re going where only really hardcore explorers have gone before.

Is it worth it? Hell yes.

Hiking through Sisimiut, Greenland.

Between the untouched natural beauty and local history and culture along the way, it’ll be a pretty one-of-a-kind adventure.

This 26-day cruise takes you from Gold Rush town, Nome, in Alaska through the Bering Strait, Chukchi Sea, Beaufort Sea, and the Amundsen Gulf before arriving at Halifax, Nova Scotia.

“This is one of our most ambitious and adventurous itineraries to date, offering our guests the chance to become true explorers as we navigate one of the most challenging stretches of water in the world,” said Damian Perry, Managing Director of Hurtigruten Asia Pacific.

“We believe in delivering truly life-changing and memorable experiences for our guests and navigating the Northwest Passage is certainly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Following a year of border restrictions and lockdown, we know from our Australian and New Zealander customers that their appetite for exploration certainly hasn’t dwindled, and we look forward to welcoming them on board for their next adventure with us”.

You get it, it’s an adventure and I’ve been bloody itching for one since lockdown.
