Chicago Is Recreating The Parade From ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’

If you can believe it, it’s been 30 years since we were introduced to the legend that is Ferris Bueller. John Hughes’ seminal 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was an ode to the idealistic days of skipping school, stealing your best friend’s dad’s car and parading around the city with a very well choreographed Beatles number. The film also serves as a kind of love letter to Hughes hometown of Chicago, and to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary, the city of Chicago have decided to give one back to the late writer/director and his epic film and throw a Ferris Bueller themed party. It’s official, Ferris Fest is here.

Ferris Fest is set to take place across various spots in Chicago over a “leisure weekend” in May. The weekend will include a special screening of the movie at the John and Nancy Hughes Theatre in Lake Forest with special guests like Ferris’ mum (Cindy Pickett), his father (Lyman Ward) and the “snooty” maitre d’ from the French restaurant (Jonathan Schmock).

There will also be a tour of some key locations of the film including Cameron’s art-deco house, Glenbrook North High School, The Art Institute of Chicago, Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) as well as Wrigley Field stadium.

Possibly the best part of the whole weekend will be a live recreation of the film’s iconic ‘Twist and Shout’ parade sequence – a.k.a. the greatest moment in cinematic history. Organisers promise there will be a few “surprises” along the way too (fingers crossed that that group of slick snapping dancers make an appearance).

There’ll even be an insanely detailed recreation of Ferris’ bedroom to peruse.

The three-day Ferris Fest will run from May 20 to 22. More info on tickets here.
