Is it just me or does everyone seem exceptionally excited for Christmas this year? December is, without a doubt, my favourite month but even I have felt my anticipation of the holiday season reach new levels of festive lately.
After spending the last three Christmases in New York City — the best place to spend Christmas, IMO — I’ve been on a desperate hunt for Sydney-based activities that align with my big 2020 Christmas dreams. Today, I discovered a great one: the Carriageworks Twilight Christmas Markets.
The market will be held on Wednesday December 23 from 4–8pm at Carriageworks in Eveleigh, Sydney.
Over 70 local growers, artisans, and farmers will be selling their goods at the markets, where you’ll be able to get your hands on everything from fresh oysters, native flowers (AKA the best Christmas table decorations), vegan roasts from Newtown’s famous Suzie Spoon’s Vegetarian Butcher, and a bunch of fancy kitchen staples. I’ve been saying for years that a bottle of fancy olive oil is one of the best gifts, so if you’re wondering what I’ll be eyeing off — that’s it.
“The Carriageworks Twilight Christmas Market is a one-stop-shop for festive entertaining but more importantly offers the opportunity to connect with and support local producers in what has been a hard year for the industry,” said Carriageworks CEO and Director Blair French. “We are delighted to bring together so many of the state’s best producers in one place allowing Sydneysiders to choose food that makes a difference this holiday season.”
If you’ve been hoping to buy thoughtful — and useful — local gifts and support small businesses this year, these markets will make all your last-minute shopping a breeze.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, you’ll have to pre-register for this year’s free event. To attend, you’ll need to jump online and get yourself a ticket, once they go on sale on Tuesday, December 1. Be sure to set an alarm, because they’re likely to sell out fast.
