Airbnb Has Revealed The Top LGBTQI-Friendly Cities To Celebrate Pride This Year

When it comes to celebrating Pride, having the most, fun, fabulous and glitter-filled time imaginable should be on top of your to-do list. So if you’re thinking about travelling abroad for the celebrations (you should) and are searching for hottest of hot spots, listen up.

Home-sharing service Airbnb recently commissioned a study to discover which destinations have the most to offer LGBTQI+ travellers. It looked at at 100 studies with the highest Pride attendance worldwide, and found out which of these fared best under five different categories, including nightlife and dating. Here are the winners

Overall Winner: New York City

NYC is the total package! Not only is it home to one of the largest and proudest Pride celebrations, it boasts bustling nightlife, a busy dating scene and well-established marriage equality. Yas NYC! Get it, girl.

Tinder Dating Winner: London

Nightlife Winner: New York City

It’s no secret that New York City has the best gay clubs and bars in the world, so rightfully so, they snatched a second win in the rankings. So if you’re looking for a place to vogue the house down, NYC is your best bet.

Pride Winner: São Paulo, Brazil

In terms of the sheer number of people (at metric tonnes of glitter) that rock up to Pride celebrations, São Paulo tops the ranking. Approximately 3 million visitors attended last year’s celebrations. Ooft.

Marriage Equality (Joint) Winners: Amsterdam, Rotterdam & Utrecht, Netherlands

Airbnb also looked at its list of cities to find out which destinations pioneered LGBTQI+ marriage equality. In the Netherlands, same-sex marriage was made legal in 2001, making it the first country in the world to do so. This means the cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht get to all sit pretty in first place. We love you, Netherlands.

Travel Winner: London

For the travel category, Airbnb looked at the cities that had the highest year-on-year growth in Airbnb guest arrivals during Pride, as well as which cities have the highest number of LGBTQI+ experiences. And the winner is, London!
