A Look Inside South America’s First Luxury Sleeper Train
If photos of Japan’s extremely luxurious sleeper train made you lament your measly travel budget, then you’re in for some bad news. South America just got it’s first ever overnight train and oh my, it’s travel in style to the umpteenth degree.
The Belmond Andean Explorer is a one or two day journey taking you through the Andean mountains, stopping off in Cusco, Puno, Lake Titicaca, the Colca Canyon and Arequipa. Meaning you get to witness majestic, towering mountains, wildlife and rivers from your very comfortable (and luxurious) window seat.
The train follows one of the highest rail routes in the world. As part of the trip, you’ll also get a tour of Lake Titicaca‘s floating islands, and enjoy a lunch stop at a private beach in Bolivia.
The train itself has 24 carriages, a restaurant, library, piano bar (!!) and an outdoor deck you can gaze out from as the train trundles through the mountainous landscape.
Prices for the luxurious train are available upon request. Which means they’re probably mind-bogglingly expensive. But, hey. Can’t hurt to dream.
