When it comes to luxe glamping experiences, you can’t do much better than Cockatoo Island in the middle of Sydney Harbour, but Airbnb are taking it to the next level: They’ve partnered with Mercedes-Benz to deliver a unique experience and priceless views of the world’s most beautiful harbour.
From August 10 to 12, three brand new Marco Polo Activity vans will be converted into luxury campers by leading Aussie stylist Megan Morton and parked as close to the water as they can without being in it. They’ll come complete with daily gourmet hampers from Sonoma, a butler and panoramic views of Sydney harbour.
Intrepid couples can book the vans for $15 (the equivalent of Airbnb’s regular booking fee) for a single-night stay from today.
World Heritage-listed Cockatoo Island is a former penal colony built, largely, by the convicts who inhabited it in the mid-1850s. In its time, it’s served as an industrial school for girls, a naval shipbuilding yard and WWII dockyard.
If you miss out on the Mercedes-Benz experience, other permanent glamping experiences are available on the island. Packages start from $150 per night from Monday to Thursday, or $175 per night on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. They come complete with a (thankfully) pre-erected two-man tent, camp beds, linens and towels, a lantern and toiletries.
