You Can Stay In A Glass Pod In NZ’s Wilderness

New Zealand is known for its remarkable (pun intended) nature, and these lone glass pods dotted around the countryside will let you immerse yourself in it completely.

PurePods are tiny transparent huts set up in three countryside locations near Christchurch; there’s two at Kaikoura (2.5 hours away) and one at Little River (1 hour away).

The walls and ceilings are made entirely from glass, offering uninterrupted views of the stunning vistas outside. Because the pods are placed in isolation on private land, you can rest assured that you and your plus one’s trip will be totally off-grid, without another person in sight. As they say on their site, “One of the great gifts that we have in New Zealand is our ability to be alone in extraordinarily beautiful places, and it is this precious gift that PurePods wants to share with you.” A precious gift, indeed.

The pods each come complete with a double bed, a small kitchen, a dining room and a bathroom, with heated floors, a fridge and a water system all powered by a combo of solar electricity and bio-fuel. Expect to stay warm on even the “chulliest” of nights.

Alternatively, in summer, you can open the doors and pull down some ceiling shades to create a cool oasis. There’s no air con, Wi-Fi, TV or hairdryer – but that’s by design. You’re going to have a way more relaxed holiday without them.

So if you and nature have been feeling a bit distant lately, here’s your chance to rekindle your relationship. The pods go from $470 per night, and you can book one here.
