The World’s Tallest Sandcastle Is Currently On Display In Germany

Building sandcastles on family holidays by the sea are some of our most treasured memories – but the colossal sandcastle currently on display in Duisburg, Germany, is quietly putting all our childhood creations to shame.

Land art is becoming increasingly popular, with large-scale public art exhibitions drawing massive crowds eager to catch a glimpse of the quirky artwork displayed. The colossal and intricate sandcastle in Duisburg is no exception – standing at an enormous 17m tall, it’s made up of over 3500 tonnes of special sculpture sand.

The colossal creation features some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, including the Great Buddha, Acropolis and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Constructing the sandy beast required a lot of helping hands, with designers and sculptors flocking from all corners of the globe to contribute. It took three weeks to finish.

Oh, and the castle took out the Guinness World Record for tallest sand sculpture, smashing India’s previous record by almost three metres.
