Go Ice Skating In Trippy Lighting At Parramatta’s Winterlight Festival

I don’t know if you heard, but it’s really cold in Sydney at the moment. But unfortunately, we get all the freezing winds, rain and darkness and none of the glamour of a proper, snowy winter. Parramatta‘s annual Winterlight Festival always injects a bit of fun into the darkness and oh boy, friends, it’s coming back on July 5.

Prince Alfred Square will be transforming into a movie-worthy winter wonderland, complete with an ice rink, carnival rides, mulled wine and winter activities.

It’s going to be the kind of place you don’t mind getting cold in, because there’s plenty to eat, drink and do that will warm you right back up again – and because ice skating is so much fun despite the cold.

Most of the fun will happen in and around the ice rink, which just so happens to be the largest open-air rink in Sydney. There’s ice skating (obvs) and a 30-metre ice slide for you to fly down on toboggans.

The ice rink will get some fancy neon decorations on July 18, when you can skate under vivid UV lights all night long. There’s also a special Date Night going down on July 11 – bring a cosy blanket to enjoy a Melissa McCarthy movie with free popcorn.

An illuminated ferris wheel will get you a birds-eye view of Winterlight — and if that’s all sounding too chilly for you, just bee-line for the mulled wine and winter warmers.

There’s roving entertainment (including fire dancers), live music, circus workshops and more at Winterlight, which is open every day between July 5 to 21. You can get check out the full program and get tickets for the ice rink here.

If that still sounds too chilly for you, why not head for Sydney’s tropical beach pop-up instead? I could think of lots of reasons why you wouldn’t, but it’s good to have options.
