Walt Disney World Just Unveiled A Life-Size Gingerbread House
There’s no doubt that Disney knows best when it comes getting into the Christmas spirit. But if you need proof, there’s one decoration at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa that puts all others to shame – a colossal, life-sized gingerbread house.
Returning for its 19th consecutive year in 2017, the mammoth 5m-tall cookie creation sits in the main lobby of the Disney resort. Each year, the resort’s pastry team, led by executive pastry chef Eric Herbitschek, spend over 400 hours baking the gingerbread and a further 160 hours constructing and decorating the intricately detailed house.
So what goes into such a creation? Well, there’s 300kg of chocolate, 270 kg of sugar and 370kg of flour – enough to induce a monster belly ache.
While the temptation to barge in and gorge on the chocolate and cookie goodness is all too real, visitors aren’t allowed inside. The gingerbread house doubles as a bake shop, from which guests can purchase everything they need to satisfy your insatiable sweet tooth.
The gingerbread house will be on display from Friday, December 1 until Thursday, January 1, 2018.
