This Swimming Hole Must Be The Coolest Place To Take A Dip In The US

An actual hole in the earth that you can jump into – sounds terrifying, right? Not when it’s filled with icy cold fresh water that’s perfect for a dip on a hot summer day.
Found smack bang in the middle of Texas near a small town called Wimberley, Jacob’s Well is Texas’s biggest underwater cave and nature’s gift to adventurous swimmers.
The well is a karst spring, which are points in a pool of water where a river cave reaches the surface. Once upon a time the spring would spurt out water high into the air, but since locals began development in the area, it’s affected the flow of water through the well – nowadays you’ll only see a faint ripple on the water’s surface.
This particular river cave descends vertically for around nine metres, then branches off into four channels which divers have found to reach almost 1300 metres below the surface. You’ll probably want to hang onto that GoPro a little tighter here – if it falls, it ain’t coming back.
It’s a popular tourist destination for deep sea divers as well as those looking to cool off after hiking or mountain biking in the surrounding verdant forest. Brave souls can plunge into the swimming hole from above, but just be sure to stay close to the surface and leave the cave diving to the professionals.
