Solo Female Travellers Will Love Tokyo’s Women-Only Capsule Hotel

Opening its doors on April 1, the Nadeshiko Hotel Shibuya is just like a regular hotel, except it’s kinda not. For one, it’s a capsule hotel which means you’ll be sleeping in those tiny, basic bed-only rooms. And secondly, there’s no boys allowed.

Travelling alone in a foreign city can be intimidating for anyone, but Nadeshiko Hotel Shibuya have set out to make the experience a little more comforting for female travellers. The hotel’s policy coincides with Japan’s stance on combatting lewd conduct, especially on public transport with women-only train carriages introduced in major Japanese cities in an effort to stop chikan, or public groping.

Similarly, the capsule hotel was designed for female travellers visiting Japan from overseas, and aims to create a safe and culturally sensitive space for its patrons.

There’s a communal sento or spa to enjoy, an assortment of refreshments on offer that are local to the region, and a kimono gift shop.

Nadeshiko Hotel is conveniently located right in the city centre, in the Shibuya area of Tokyo. There are 24 beds in total and guests will be treated to a clothes rack, air conditioning and bathrobes. Sounds pretty perfect to us.
