Swap Your Skills For A Free Stay In These Sweet B&Bs Around The World

Barter Week

Forking out cash to pay for accommodation is so 2000-and-late. Money can always be earned, but learning a new skill from a stranger is totally invaluable.

That’s why B&Bs from all over the world are taking part in Barter Week, where travellers can stay for free, if they’re skilled in manual, teaching or creative tasks.

So far, close to 450 B&Bs in more than 60 countries worldwide have signed up to participate in Barter Week, which will kick off during the third week in November. It’s a remastered version of Settimana del Baratto in Italy, now in its 10th year.

And by the look of some of these homes up for grabs, I’d be thinking hard about what it is you could offer.

Here’s how it works. The site dedicated to the event will show listings participating in this year’s scheme, organised by country. Each B&B will advertise what it is they’re looking for in exchange for the free stay. Then, once you’ve found your dream accommodation and are able to meet the requests posted, you are put in contact with the owners and can start bargaining.

Alternatively, if there’s no set wish list, you can offer a barter of your own. For example, maybe you’re an excellent cook, can play the piano, are a good dancer, or are multi-lingual and are willing to teach.
