Aussie Suburb Named Among The World’s Most Hipster Neighbourhoods

With apologies to Surry Hills, Collingwood, West End, Windsor, Newtown and Highgate, Fitzroy is now officially the best place in Australia to sip single-origin soy lattes while listening to the Serial podcast.

This is according to the UK Telegraph, which has named the grungy Melbourne suburb in its list of “The World’s Most Hipster Neighbourhoods”. Fitzroy has been praised for its laneways (it’s in Melbourne after all!), street art and famed rooftop bar Naked For Satan, which offers unparalleled views of “corrugated roofs and city skyscrapers”.

There are also shout-outs to the Industry Beans café, where you can indulge in your love of coffee and “deconstructed, petal-strewn dishes”; and Andrew McConnell’s acclaimed Cutler & Co restaurant, where you can indulge in dishes like braised short rib with nettle, oyster and pepper sauce, and a pot roasted pear, elderflower and verjus granita.

Other suburbs included in the list are Shoreditch in London, Nørrebro in Copenhagen, Central Eastside in Portland, Gan Hahashmal in Tel Aviv, The Born in Barcelona, Beyoğlu, Istanbul and Silver Lake in Los Angeles, which we described as the new Williamsburg. Full list below.
