A Town In NSW Is Building a Big Bogan

The tiny town of Nyngan in NSW has decided to celebrate their culture and history by building a giant statue…of a Bogan. The project, which received unanimous approval from the Nyngan Council, will honour the quintessential Australian of popular culture with a 3.6 metre steel likeness. The good people of Nyngan (which is located in a local government area named Bogan Shire, along the Banks of the Bogan River), are hoping that, along with celebrating Bogan identity, the Big Bogan will draw tourists from all over Australia and the world.

The “Big Bogan”, as it is officially named, will come complete with a singlet, thongs, fishing rod and, of course, and esky. Apparently, an earlier plan for the Big Bogan had depicted him smashing a tinny – why that version was nixed is beyond me.
