The 7 Best Things To Do In Melbourne This September

Spring is finally here to shake Melburnians from their winter slump and set the city’s sights on summer. It’s officially time to throw off that heavy coat and explore the city (but maybe still keep a jumper handy, yeah?).

Here are the seven best things to do in Melbourne this September. [listicle]

House Of Dior At The National Gallery Of Victoria

House of Dior promo

The prestigious House Of Dior is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a bang by bringing its couture collection to Melbourne for an exclusive showing at the NGV this September. If you’re looking for something a little more interactive, head to one of the Friday Nights events (which includes after-hours access to the exhibition), or the Sofitel’s Atrium Bar for post-gallery Dior-themed cocktails.

Where: 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne

When: August 27 to November 7, 2017, 10am to 5pm daily

Mould Cheese Festival

Mould Cheese Festival Melbourne

Holy cheesus, Bottle Shop Concepts are back – and, this time, they’re bringing you all the gouda, buffalo and blue you can handle at the Mould Cheese Festival. Head to Meat Market on Saturday 2 September for unlimited tastings and a free glass of wine – just be sure to nab your tickets ASAP, brie-fore they sell out. Sorry (not sorry).

Where: Meat Market, 5 Blackwood Street, North Melbourne

When: September 2, 11am to 9pm (two sessions)

Melbourne Fashion Week

Melbourne Fashion Week

The funny thing about Melbourne Fashion Week is that people forget they can actually attend all the runways, VIP-style (unlike in Sydney). You can even nab yourself a front-row seat if you’re looking for some serious Instagram cred.

If runways aren’t your thing but you’d still like to immerse yourself in some #farshun, try Melbourne Central’s “millennial pink” transformation for Vogue Fashion’s Night Out (1 September), the MFW Music Stage (1-8 September), or one of the awesome free exhibitions running throughout the week.

When: September 1 to 8, 2017

Pop Up Globe

The world’s only working replica of the famous Shakespeare’s historical stage, The Globe, is popping up in Melbourne like one of the bard’s best double entendres. Hit up the Pop Up Globe website for the program, which kicks off on September 21 next to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

Where: Sidney Myer Music Bowl in the Kings Domain, Linlithgow Ave, Melbourne

When: September 21 to November 12, 2017

AFL Women’s State of Origin

Sure, it’s Grand Final Month in Melbourne and we could tell you about the all usual AFL goings-on but, instead, we thought we’d give you something a bit more important – like the first ever AFL Women’s League State of Origin!

Head to Etihad Stadium on Saturday 2 September at 7:40pm for the free game, and watch history being made. Go girls.

Where: Etihad Stadium, 740 Bourke Street, Docklands

The Melbourne Fringe Festival

Melbourne Fringe Festival 2017

From 14 September to 1 October, the Melbourne Fringe Festival is coming to Melbourne to convince us that anything is art. A cabaret slumber party, a dinner that descends into performance art and, most importantly, a selfie factory are all set to feature.

Hophaus Annual Daschund Race

You may think you want to don a fascinator and head off to the bustling Birdcage for Spring Carnival’s kick off, but you really want to attend the most important racing event of the year. Yep, the Hophaus Annual Dachshund race is back!

Head to Hophaus at Southgate on Saturday 23 September and place your bets on the sausage with the best racing outfit – all money raised goes to Dachshund Rescue Australia. Nawwww.
